Tips:
- Don’t turn your back to the camera, D/deaf people will need to see the presenters face for lipreading and to read emotions on their face.
- Ensure that the lighting behind the presenter isn’t too strong – this can cast a shadow on the face of the presenter and inhibit lip reading.
- Be mindful of covering your mouth or having obstructions such as facial hair.
- When featuring a video ensure it too has closed captions quite often people go to the effort of having closed captions for the presenter but forget to include it in attached videos etc so when the presenter comes back to discuss the featured video the person watching has missed critical content.
- Include an Intepreter for better accessability – Not all D/deaf people are confident with written English and may be more comfortable watching an Interpreter sign in their preferred language British Sign Language (BSL). An Interpreter is a highly qualified/insured person who will be needed to translate from English. For more info click here. https://www.cotswoldsigning.co.uk/do-i-need-an-interpreter/
