Pre-School/Nursery training (Duration TBD)

- A course catered specifically for the setting to ensure staff and students alike are Deaf aware and have basic Signing skills. Signs can be developed together to personalise the communications that take place.
Deaf Awareness Training ( 1 hour session )

- Deaf awareness training sessions can be custom made for your organisation to ensure they match the business or organisational needs. Deaf awareness training covers key aspects such as myths surrounding Deafness, fingerspelling, BSL greetings, do’s and don’ts of communicating with a Deaf person, as well as simple communication strategies and vocabulary. This course can be custom made to best fit the needs of the setting it is held in. It can also give an insight into what the 8/10 week course holds for those that wish to pursue it further.
Business BSL Course (3 weeks) 1 – 2 hour sessions

- This course focuses on Deaf awareness in a working environment; staff are taught the fundamentals of basic Sign Language and what Deafness is and how to ensure accessibility for all. Staff members will come away with the confidence to hold basic BSL conversations and engage with clients/customers in a formal friendly way.
Introductory BSL (8/10 weeks) 1 hour sessions

- This more advanced course teaches learners to communicate confidently with Deaf people in the production and understanding of Sign Language. This course covers basic elements of British Sign Language including but not limited to: colours, numbers, meet and greet, family, emotions, days/months, who, what, where, when, why, Iconic Signs, animals, food & drink. Learners should come away with a sound knowledge of British Sign Language and be able to utilise it in everyday life.
Intermediate BSL (18 weeks) 2 hour sessions
- BSL non accredited level one is a course that teaches learners to communicate confidently with Deaf people in the production and understanding of Sign Language. This course covers basic elements of British Sign Language including but not limited to: colours, numbers, meet and greet, family, emotions, days/months,question Signs, Iconic Signs, animals, food & drink. Learners should come away confident to engage well with Deaf people & be able converse in a variety of ways.
Signed storytime (6 weeks) 30mins
This course teaches (BSL) that can be adapted for younger children (e.g. – M for Mum/ Flat hand on head) but can also be a transferable skill for the caregiver to use in day to day life/work opposed to some franchises that will teach a mixture of Makaton (simple Signs) and made up Signs that are not used in BSL.
I will cover – ABC’s, Numbers, Colours, Animals, Family Signs, Bedtime routine. For each session there are typically toys laid out on a parachute as well as flashcards/Signs. Each session we Sign/sing a song that is linked to the topic area and also read a book linked to the topic so for example – Animal week we sing Old Mc Donald and read Dear Zoo.

I really enjoyed the workshop, learnt loads about deaf awareness and really enjoyed the activities and learning some signs.
